Lab AKI data are different from the AKI requiring dialysis data that are collected for the clinical CKD dataset.
Lab AKI data encompass all AKI warning test scores in adults and children that are identified by an algorithm embedded in the laboratory information management systems (LIMS) of hospital labs in England.
These AKI data are submitted securely and directly to the UKRR every month for the previous calendar month in two files. One file contains the AKI warning test scores and the other file has the associated creatinine data.
AKI reports are sent by the UKRR to each laboratory, summarising the completeness of the data submitted, and also to each clinical commissioning group so that they can understand the level of AKI in their populations.
The lab AKI dataset is linked with NHS Digital (Hospital Episode Statistics and Civil Registration Database).
The first national AKI report for England was published in July 2020.
