Overview
The Education and Training Committee’s aims are:
- Review of educational meetings for UKKA approval and inclusion in eNews.
- Review criteria for CPD with Royal Colleges
- Review of educational material for training and CPD for UKKA approval
- Review of content and evaluations of UKKA Advanced Nephrology course
- Develop annual CPD sessions for UKKA meetings
- Identification of educational gaps in courses currently available
- Training issues – curriculum, assessment
- Ensure that education is available – courses, e-learning etc are appropriate for current and changing nephrology workforce
- Ensure that renal education and training are available for non-clinical renal scientists
- Review renal teaching to undergraduate medical students
The Committee works to ensure all aspects of education and training relating to nephrology in the UK are current and relevant and represents the views of the kidney community at various forums where education and training policy is developed.
In particular, the Committee focuses on:
- Recruitment and manpower planning in the specialty
- Curriculum development (making training fit for purpose)
- Optimising curriculum delivery including advising members on approved courses and other training material
- Exit examinations and other measures of quality
- Softer factors e.g quality of working lives that influence the effectiveness of training
- Liaising with and listening to all relevant parties to ensure diverse voices are heard and heeded in order to optimise training
