You may have recently seen information about the changes for PatientView (formally Renal Patient View). For improved security reasons, the communication of test results from kidney unit systems directly to kidney patients must move to a new system called Patients Know Best.

In Northern Ireland and Scotland, this changeover is taking longer than in other UK regions. On the 14th of August, PatientView will close down. We anticipate that there will be a gap before Health and Social Care (HSC) in Northern Ireland and regional NHS health boards in Scotland can move forward with the new patient viewing platform. This means that there is likely to be a break in service for patients.

Please be assured that patient test results are still being sent from laboratories to kidney units and will be acted upon as normal by units.

We are working together with HSC, NHS Scotland and kidney units to make this gap in service as short as possible.

We appreciate that many patients will feel anxious and compelled to call their units, but please consider that this may deflect staff work away from resolving direct clinical issues.

Once HSC and the Scottish health boards have completed their processes, the changeover can take place and patients should receive a letter or email with steps on how to sign-up for the new system.
As soon as these steps have been followed, an online portal service for viewing test results will resume.
